Have you ever heard that you are a product of the top 5 people you hang around? Think about everyone that you surround yourself with, work life and personal life. Are these people helping you in some way or are they bringing you down? In order to grow as a person and an employee, it is important to surround yourself with like-minded people. These people will understand where you're trying to go and what you're trying to become. They can help you understand your drive and ways that you can reach your set goals. You need people like this who will push you to be a better version of yourself.

Here are 5 tips to help you stay on track and close to like-minded people:

1. Have a Support System.

Surround yourself with people who can see and who support your vision. They will hold you accountable and make sure that you stay on track to make your vision come true. These are the people who can encourage and inspire each other. They make it easier to reach your goals because you always have someone in your corner cheering you on.

2. Be Yourself.

With like-minded people, you feel comfortable to be yourself. You can express your ideas without judgement and can gain valuable insight on how to bring those ideas into reality. These people understand your hustle and while they may have different goals, they understand what it takes to reach those goals and support you all the way. You don't have to fake who you are.

3. Stay Away from Dream Killers.

Naysayers and negative people aren't happy about their own lives and don't have set goals for themselves. So, they don't like seeing others succeed. They don't understand why you do the things that you do. They can't see the vision that you have set or yourself. As Les Brown once said, "If you're not on the way you're in the way." Not everyone that you meet is meant to be in your future. This can be a hard truth to accept, but sometimes it's best to let go of those who can't support you because they could eventually cause you to lose heart and give up on those dreams that you set for yourself.

4. Surround Yourself with People Who Are Smarter Than You.

There is absolutely nothing more valuable than wisdom and advice from someone who has been there and done that. If you are the smartest person in the room, you need to find a new room because you're not growing and learning. If you want to be successful in your career, find someone who is already successful. They can teach you, show you their ways, help you understand what it takes to get to that level. They can introduce you to people, give you ideas, plan out your strategies, and it won't be intimidating. It will be a lesson that you can treasure forever and one day teach to someone who is standing where you once stood.

5. Find People Who Share Your Interests.

Find those people who enjoy your hobbies, interests, and desires. This doesn't have to be strictly in the workplace. Consider joining things in the community such as a softball team, a Zumba class, or anything that you enjoy! Whatever you decide to do, make sure that it's something productive and improves your quality of life.

Now, think about how all of these things can affect you in the workplace. Would you rather be surrounded by people who just come to work to get a paycheck or would you rather be surrounded by people who have dreams of starting their own business? Think about everyone that you surround yourself with at work now. Does anyone come to mind that you might need to distance yourself from? What about anyone who you need to spend more time with? Make the change because it'g going to benefit you and your goals!
