Things You Wish You Would Have Packed
As a first-time PCSer, you probably did your research and packed everything you thought you would need for the big move. As a seasoned PCSer, you know there's always something that could have been packed to make that move just a tad bit easier. We have complied a list of the top 10 items that people wish they would have packed for their PCS in hopes that maybe some of these could benefit you and your family as you travel to your new home!
1. Electronic Accessories Organizer - This bag can keep all of your cords and chargers handy in one easy-to-locate spot. It prevents that frantic "where's my phone charger" moment! Simply pack all those wires in the bag and take it in the hotel when you stop for the night.
2. USB Power Strip - This can come in handy when you stop for the night at a hotel. Many hotel rooms only have a certain number of outlets and they can be in tricky or hard-to-reach spots. Having a small USB power strip can allow you to plug in any and all electronics in one spot.
3. Wrinkle Spray - Let's face it, you've been living out of a suitcase for the past few days. That doesn't mean you have to look that way! A bottle of wrinkle spray is handy for quickly removing those wrinkles if you have to make a stop during the move.
4. Fireproof/Waterproof Document Holder - It's crucial that you keep your important documents safe during your PCS. By having a fireproof and waterproof document holder, you can ensure that those documents will be well cared for!
5. Large Tote Bag - No more dragging a suit case into the hotel every night; a large tote bag can serve as your one stop shop! Simply open your suit case in the back of your vehicle, grab a fresh outfit, toiletries and nightly essentials and throw them in the tote bag. You can easily fit your family's overnight essentials in a large bag making it an easy trip from the car to the hotel.
6. Household Tool Kit - You never know what you'll have to repair during the move or right after you arrive at your new home. Having a handheld household tool kit can come in handy if you need to repair an item immediately.
7. First Aid Kit - Having a small first aid kit in your vehicle is important in case of an accident. Let's say you slip and fall on ice during your move, the first aid kit could have an ice pack that helps decrease bruising and/or swelling. Your child accidentally scrapes his knee in the parking lot of the hotel after a long day of driving; the first aid kit provides bandaids to bandage him up! There's always potential for something to happen during your move, so being prepared is key.
8. Instant Pot - This has been a life saver for some families as it provides a way to cook endless meals without needing tons of pots, pans and dishes. It is light weight and can be used in a hotel room at night.
9. Kitchen Multitool Kit - If you're driving, you are probably tired of fast food or sandwiches from the cooler. Having a kitchen multitool kit can be a great item to have during the PCS. It can include anything from a cheese grater, zester, garlic crusher, knives, peeler, forks, spoons, bottle opener, corkscrew, to a small can opener. This is a perfect addition to the Instant Pot because you can create a homemade meal even in a hotel room.
10. Car Pillow and Blanket - We all know that long drives can make you tired. Having a small pillow and throw blanket can make it easier to take a nap in your vehicle when you aren't driving.
There are tons of items that you can pack to fit your family's needs when PCSing. From the common, every day travel items to the ones that you may not have thought about, it is important to be prepared for your big move. Think of ways that you can make the move a little less stressful and plan accordingly!
