Things to Switch Over After a PCS
PCSing can be a very complicated and sometimes stressful process when trying to remember everything that needs to be done! On top of packing, scheduling movers, setting dates and preparing for your move, you also have to focus on getting to your next duty station. One you arrive, there is a number of things that must be switched over and/or set up.
We've compiled a list of 25 items that should be switched to help make life easier during this busy time.
1. Post Office - Change Address and Forward Mail
2. IRS
3. Bank (Change Address Attached to Cards)
4. DMV an Voters ID
5. Home Insurance
6. Auto Insurance
7. Life Insurance
8. Pet Chip Address
9. 401K
10. Investments
11. Loan Issuers
12. Student Loans
13. Cable/Satellite
14. Electric
15. Gas
16. Internet / Wifi
17. Water / Sewer
18. Trash
19. Phone
20. Doctors (Transfer Records)
21. Dentist (Transfer Records)
22. Veterinarian (Transfer Records)
23. Retail Clubs (Costco, Sam's Club, etc.)
24. Magazines / Subscription Boxes (Fab Fit Fun, Stitch Fix, etc.)
25. Online Shopping (Amazon, etc.)
An easy way to remember to switch these items over is to create a printable document and keep it inside of your PCS binder. In one column, have the name of the item that needs to be switched over or set up. In the next column, put the company name (Ex. for your Cable provider, put "Cox" if that is who you used to set up your cable). In the final column, put the date; this way you have a record of when it was switched over and/or set up at your new home.
Staying organized is one way to reduce stress associated with PCSing. We hope that this list is helpful to you and your family and you are moving and getting settled into your new home!
