The Important of a First Week Box
Whether you are full DITY or a partial DITY, it is important to have a first week box. This box should contain enough household items to get you through the first week at your new home. If you're doing a DITY, you now have access to a box with necessities, so you aren't rushing to unpack and find everything you need. If you're doing a partial, you may be a week or two without your household goods, so it's important to have access to items that you may need for that first week.
Now, you might be wondering what you need for the first week. We have compiled a list of household items that are helpful for that first week.
1. Toilet Paper
2. Paper Towels
3. Paper Plates
4. Instant Pot
5. Plastic Silverware
6. Hand Soap
7. Broom and/or Mop
8. Snacks
9. Water Bottles
10. Towels for Each Family Member
11. Shampoo and Conditioner
12. Body Wash
13. Trash Bags
14. Toilet Brush
15. Multi-Purpose Cleaner
Starting with the bathroom, it's important to have towels, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, a toilet brush and cleaners. These basic necessities will allow you to immediately clean the toilet and have supplies to shower after a long day of moving and unpacking.
For the kitchen, having an Instant Pot will make it easy to prep and cook a quick meal for your family. You can use the paper towels for drying hands or cleaning up. The paper plates and plastic silverware can easily be disposed of in the trash bags that you packed! It's also important to have a variety of snacks and water on hand to avoid getting take-out while unpacking your belongings.
Depending on your family, your "first week" box could vary significantly! For example, if you have children, you may need to add some toys or activities to keep them occupied while you unpack. If you have pets, you would need to include water bowls, food bowls, and food for the week.
Regardless, it is extremely important to have that first week box handy to avoid having to go shopping as soon as you get to your new home. We all know how busy those first few days are as you get settled in and begin moving into your home!
