You may be wondering what an Enneagram is or what your Enneagram type is! An enneagram is a system that explains 9 types of personalities and the motivations, fears and dynamics of each. It is focused on understanding each other, focusing in on core emotions, motivations, and fears. All 9 types of personalities have their own driving force, and it's centered around an emotion. For an Enneagram Type 6, or a Skeptic, you're probably thinking several steps ahead and preparing for what could go wrong during this PCS. Because you're very logical, you are anticipating every step of this process and you have a plan A, B and C to ensure it goes as smooth as possible. You've become even more supportive of your family during this time, ensuring they feel safe and heard as big changes are coming your way.
Your PCS fear: Your biggest fear for your upcoming PCS is being unprepared. You've likely thought of every possible outcome for this move, but deep down you're nervous that you may have missed an important detail that could cause your PCS to go wrong.
Your core motivation: You are motivated by a need to feel safe and secure. You are very loyal to those who have made you feel safe, and you seek support and reassurance from them whenever you can.
So, how can an Enneagram Type 5 tackle a PCS? By using these 4 tips and the tools attached to this blog, you're sure to have a successful move!
Tip #1: Enjoy the journey. As a six, you probably look at life as a step-by-step process rather than a journey. When you understand this, you will become more brave and confident in yourself and those around you. With such an uncertain time ahead with your PCS, it is important to slow down and just enjoy the journey.
Tip #2: Be aware of self-fulfilling prophecies. This happens when you over-fixate on something and can lead to extreme paranoia. This kind of skepticism can cause problems with those around you. Don't let this cause extra stress on top of an already-stressful time.
Tip #3: Continue working on trusting those around you. Focus on those around you and learn to have more faith in them. Not everyone is out to harm you, and it's important to give people a chance. Whether it be the movers or your new leadership, learn to give them a chance before closing off.
Tip #4: Practice healthy relaxing habits. As a six, you spend a lot of time in your head. Practice healthy habits that allow you to relax and focus your energy elsewhere. Instead of worrying about what could go wrong during your PCS move, try to go for a walk with your family around the neighborhood and ask them what they're looking forward to at the next duty station.
Your PCS Toolkit consists of an Ultimate After-You-Move Checklist and a Monthly Planner to help you focus on what is in front of you rather than what needs to be done in the future. These will help you focus on things happening now and allow you to give your time and energy to those around you.
