PCS: DOD Resources
A permanent change of station is part of the military lifestyle. You will get to experience many different parts of the country, and potentially other countries! The key to a successful PCS is to stay organized.
The Department of Defense provides numerous resources to help get and stay organized for military families during a PCS move including Military OneSource and Move.mil.
Military OneSource has availability 24/7 where you can chat with expert moving consultants and access online tools to help stay organized, although your first stop will be Move.mil.
Move.mil, the official DOD customer moving portal, will soon be moving to Military OneSource. Within the next few months, you should have access to resources and tools available from U.S. Transportation Command on Military OneSource. Currently, you can find information on customer support for moving household goods, resources to help you plan your shipment, and links to log into the Defense Personal Property System to schedule your move.
Additional resources will soon be transferring to Military OneSource, but can be accessed on Move.mil until then.
One of the most helpful tools to use on Military OneSource is the Plan My Move tool. It can be accessed at: https://planmymove.militaryonesource.mil
"Plan My Move creates a custom checklist for your move, filled with information about the tasks you need to complete and how to complete them. Your checklist is tailored to the unique needs that you or your family have."
Simply enter where you're currently stationed, where you're moving to, who you are, and let the tool do its job to create your personalized checklist.
Staying organized is key during a PCS move, and the DOD resources allow you to do just that. Take advantage of these tools and use them to your benefit during your PCS.
