Being a military family can bring many things, but one that we can always count on is an upcoming PCS. Having orders for months before a move can bring on some major anxiety. Trying to figure out which neighborhood is right for you with the best schools, all without ever setting foot in the city, can be scary! Having the right agent on your side can ease your worries when buying or renting from afar. Here are a couple tips that we’ve put together to help you when hunting for your new home from another duty station.

Do your research

We understand that you’re comfortable in your neighborhood now. You’ve got your grocery stores, you know exactly how long it takes you to get to the kid’s school, and how far away Target is. Decide what is most important to you for your commute! Is it more important to be centrally located to shopping areas? Do you need to be within a few minutes of the military base? Or would you rather be further out, in a quieter area? It’s no secret that it’s usually busier by the base. Look into crime rates and school ratings to make sure that the area you’re looking suites your families needs. Researching potential neighborhoods will help ease your mind about choosing a home from afar.

Use technology

Google maps is about to be your best friend. Map how far away potential houses are from the areas you’ll be traveling to most: the base, your favorite stores, your job, the kid’s school, etc. You may feel like you know the area a bit better when you arrive as well. Along with Google maps, use your video chat and photo/video sharing capabilities. Have your agent give you video tours of homes. Many of our prior clients have purchased sight unseen, viewing their new home on FaceTime or through videos we have sent them.

Find an agent you can trust

The PCS Pro Team specializes in military moves, and we are no stranger to having our buyers buy or rent sight unseen. In the same way you would trust your best friend or family member to find a house for you, put your faith in us that we will find the home that suits your family’s needs. We will give you our best advice and recommendations, every time!
