A healthy work-life balance--Something we all strive for, yet so often we’re pulled in a million different directions. Have you ever found yourself having to choose between disappointing your family, or falling behind in your business? Not to mention sacrificing that important “me time.” Sometimes it can feel like you are racing against the hours in the day, trying to please everyone!

Real estate can be particularly difficult when it comes to work-life balance. Being available for one conversation can mean the difference between closing a deal or losing it. So how does one manage it all?

First, prioritize work and family. Just as we prioritize work, our family requires the same thought and planning. Being consistent is key. Be clear about your commitment to your family, just like you are to work. This could mean being home for dinner by 6:00, dropping the kids off at school each morning, or being in charge of bed/bath time. Whatever it is, try your best to stick to that routine so your spouse and kids have something they can count on! Understand that sometimes you can't control things in your business and you may have to occasionally bend the routine. Sometimes there are sacrifices that you and your family will have to make because this is a tough industry. There will be times when you have to work those long hours and put in time on the weekends. The key is making up for it. If you realize that a showing will interfere with family time, have your spouse and kids ride with you. Make the most of the moment by playing games in the car. After your showing, drive and make a quick stoop for ice cream. Be sure that you are being mindful of how you spend your hours. Good communication, both at work and at home, will take you far! Make sure you check in with your spouse and you "unplug" to ensure you're being attentive.

Second, be sure that you time block in an efficient manner. Maximize your time. For example, do you have a 20 minute drive to the office? Listen to your daily podcast. Make a call to your buyer lead to know exactly what they're looking for so you're not wasting time showing a house they aren't interested in.

One of the biggest and best perks of being in the real estate industry is the flexibility of being in charge of your schedule. Don't let tedious tasks get in the way of the free time you deserve or time with family. It's a simple formula; less time spent on tedious tasks equals more time spent closing deals, growing your network and enjoying that quality time with family!
