1. Clear Gutters: It's important to clear your gutters frequently to ensure they can drain properly. You'll want to make sure they are attached properly and that they drain away from your home.

2. Test Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detectors: Not only is this a great home maintenance tip, but it's for your health and safety. You'll want to ensure these are working because in the event of an emergency, you will be aware quickly. 

3. Change Filters: Changing your HVAC filters should be a regular maintenance task in your household, especially if you have children or pets! A dirty filter means your system may not be working as effectively as possible. 

4. Trim Back Trees: Ensure there are no trees with limbs hanging over your home. In the event of a storm, limbs could break and damage your roof. Trimming back trees and their limbs is a great way to maintain the safety of your home. 

5. Check for Leaks: Check your toilets, sinks and showers for leaks. If water is leaking, it's wasting your water. This is typically an easy fix but if you're unsure, always call a professional!

6. Clear Dryer Vent: Not to be mistaken with the lint trap, the dryer vent is what pushes air outside through a duct. It can fill with lint, and this can be a fire hazard. 

7. Clean Vents and Coils: Cleaning around your refrigerator's vents and coils will help to improve its efficiency. 

8. Fix the Caulking: Fixing the caulking on your windows and doors ensures your home stays properly insulated during all seasons and helps to keep small bugs and creatures out.
